If you have been to Byron Bay, Australia or even seen pictures of Byron Bay you may have been lucky enough to have seen some of the amazing sand art along one of the beaches. Byron Bay local man, Craig Gasciogne has been creating these incredible designs for many years, with nothing more than a simple rake and a talented eye.
Last weekend (2.Apr.2016) I was walking down the track to Wategos Beach early in the morning to find Craig working on one of his designs. I’d never met Craig before but often seen him drawing on Main Beach so I was very happy to see him mid-drawing on my favourite beach in Byron. I took some pictures and then went down to watch for a bit while he created his masterpiece. Once finished I then made my way back up the path and found Craig viewing his work from a distance. I said a quick hello and offered to send him some of my photos. It was only a quick exchange of words but Craig seemed a really nice, happy guy. How could he not be when he creates such incredible designs that bring so much happiness to those who see them.
Before I wrote this I watched an interview with Craig where he said this about his sand art:
“These pictures affect you in a way of love, so if we take loads of photos and send them to all your friends on Facebook, then eventually we will be able to affect the world with love, that’s the goal…your weapon is your camera, fire it into the internet, I make the ammo and together we are the lovevolutionary warriors!”
What an amazing idea! So here are my shots, Craig and thanks for the ammo!
